A popular form of body art among the women, Mehendi or Henna applies decorative designs on a person’s body, using a paste, created from the powdered dry leaves of the henna plant. As a temporary form of skin decoration, it is most popular in the UAE. Followed by this great interest, a Mehendi competition was conducted to inculcate among the learners’ interest in the traditional customs of UAE exhibited on various festive occasions. Students of the primary section took part in this competition enthusiastically. They applied various alluring designs and exhibit their talent in this art form.
Usually applied to hands and feet, the standard color of henna is brown, but white, red, black and gold colours are also applied. Used by various religions worldwide, Mehendi had its origin in ancient India.
